The non-partisan Legislative Audit Bureau released an audit today about the state’s Health Insurance Risk-Sharing Plan (HIRSP) Authority. Created during 1979, HIRSP is a program that “provides medical and prescription drug insurance for individuals who cannot obtain coverage in the commercial health insurance market because of the severity of their health conditions.”
The audit reveals HIRSP had a net asset balance of $13.7 million Dec. 31, 2010, more than the required $12.6 million balance.
In addition, the organization that oversees the program, the Health Insurance Risk-Sharing Plan Authority, is increasing premiums beginning July 1 to meet unexpectedly high claim and medical costs.
Thank you to the Audit Bureau for another excellent audit. Here is a link to the audit: http://legis.wisconsin.gov/lab/reports/11-9full.pdf
