Lazich applauds lowering mandatory auto insurance minimums
State Sen. Mary Lazich issued the following statement after the passage of Senate Bill 7, a bill that repealed many of the auto insurance changes included in the 2009-2011 budget.
“During the last session of the legislature, Democrats included policy as part of the budget. One of the policy pieces was increasing minimum levels of auto insurance coverage people must purchase. Senate Bill 7, approved today, rolls back the minimum required coverage to previous levels.
“Constituents contacted me furious about the increased costs of their auto insurance due to the increased requirements. Insurance agents contacted me concerned people that had reduced coverage to the minimums, due to personal economic conditions, would be priced out of purchasing auto insurance.
“I am pleased that with the bill approved today, people will again have options.”
