Recount

State, Elections

TheJournal Sentinel informs us that John Marek requested a recount following unofficial results showed him behind Mike Kuglitsch by 173 votes out of 8,819 cast in the recent 84th Assembly Primary Election.

The Government Accountability Board (GAB) staff reviewed Marek's petition, evidently determined the petition was sufficient and the required fee ---$5 per ward as required by Statute (totaling $245) was paid.

The GAB then ordered that " a recount be conducted of all the votes cast for the office of Representative to the Assembly  for the 84th Assembly District at the Partisan Primary Election, Republican Primary  held on September 14, 2010 in Waukesha and Milwaukee Counties."

The Waukesha County Board of Canvassers  were ordered to convene at 9 am Friday, Sept. 24 to begin the recount.  The Milwaukee County Board of Canvassers were ordered to convene at 9 am Friday, Sept. 24 to begin the recount. All the votes from those two counties must be counted by  Monday, Sept. 27 at 12:00 pm.

The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat Don Vanpool in the November 2 election.

The 84th Assembly seat became open due to Mark Gundrum leaving office to become a judge.
